Steps
Phase I-Before you apply
Check your presence on Google
These days when we meet somebody and we want to find out more about it, we go to social media pages. The companies do the same. If they find a candidate’s application interesting, they go to their social media profiles. So, if you are applying for a job, make sure your social media profiles are sorted. You can type your name on Google and make sure that there is nothing that can harm your reputation. Delete offensive Tweets or inappropriate social media posts if there are any.
Ask your colleagues to add testimonials to your LinkedIn profile.
How to Prepare Your Resume for a Digital Marketer Role
You might have seen less qualified people getting hired earlier than qualified ones. This all is the game of a proper resume. If you are not able to express your skills and experience through your resume, there is no use in possessing them. As a digital marketer, you are expected to sell services in the best way, and your resume is your first job, you sell your services through it. Here are some of the things you must consider while preparing your resume.
Make a new one for every company
Read the company profile and check whether they are looking for some specific skills and if you possess them, mention them. There is no use in listing experience and skills in the field that the company doesn’t work in. If the company wants to experience in B2B marketing and you have done an internship in a B2C company, there is no use in advertising that part.
Differentiate yourself
The simplest rule is standing out. During the resume screening process, there are multiple applications. The resumes with inadequate skills or loosely linked information are straight away rejected. So, it is better to craft yours in such a way that shares the most needful information and separates you from the crowd at the same time. Make them believe that you are different and you can do it.
Avoid typos
A clean and simple resume must be free from any type of typos or grammatical errors. It must be clean in the sense that there are no flaws in the language and the information provided by you is relevant. When you are pitching for a digital marketing job, you are required to use sharp and quirky sentences that show your creativity.
The must adds
Education
As a fresher, your primary focus must be on your degree and the college you have studied. When you have past experience, you are evaluated on the basis of experience, but when you are fresher, your degree masters the most. Don’t forget to add your achievements and the projects you have done so far.
Internships
As mentioned above projects represent your skill set more than your listing in the resume does. You must mention all the relevant internships and projects you have covered for a better impression.
Work experience
When you are applying to a company, and you have relevant work experience, you get a higher chance of getting the job. The thing is marketing your experience well. Mention the job you did and the response you got.
Apart from resume preparation, you also need to be ready for the questions you will be asked during the interview.
Add achievements to your resume at the top.
Example of Achievements
- Create a process for 50+ activities that fall under digital marketing and got EXCELLENT ranking + traffic improvement for the majority of the projects with the help of a team.
- Create a video for all the processes and make it easy for all the team members to execute the task with the same level of expertise.
- The client retention rate has been increased from 3 months to 9 months for the majority of the projects.
Ideas for Achievements you can add to your resume,

- Productivity improvement
Phase II-Before you go for an interview for a company
- Take the website they would like to promote from HR when they call you for the interview.
- Check changes from the conversion optimization point of view and create a spreadsheet for the same.
- You can also create a report from woorank.com and prepare a report with observations and suggestions.
Be Ready with Your Answers
It is always advisable to do a bit of research about the company before going for an interview. Even if you are prepared well, there are chances that you might stumble on an unexpected question. You should always be prepared for out-of-the-box questions. In the digital marketing field, interviewers also measure the candidate’s promptness and smartness apart from his preparedness. So, the answers to the questions you did not expect will determine if you are eligible for the job or not.
In case you face any unexpected questions, try to give clear, reasoned answers. It will set you apart from the rest of the candidates. It may happen that you might not crack the very first interview you appeared for, but with the passage of time, it will give you the confidence to face the interviewers. You will learn the art of giving answers, taking a pause at the right time, and stating your conditions directly but humbly.
Phase III-At the time you are facing the interview.
- All your answers during the interview should lead to any of the 4 things, ranking, visits, Leads/products sell, or branding only.
- Be honest in case you don’t know particular things answer tells upfront that I didn’t know but I can easily go through Google and create understanding for the same.
- Represent your conversion optimization and other analysis reports with logical reasons and outcomes.
Honesty is the Best Policy
When you are applying for a post in the digital marketing field, you are likely to be asked questions about the company’s website or social media profiles. You must study them beforehand to come up with a sound answer. Rather than just praising them, if you can point out the areas of improvement, it will make a very good impression on the employer. Employers are not looking for flattery but fresh insights when they ask about their websites or social media pages. Your answer will give them an idea of how you can contribute to their organization.
Show Your Track Record
If this is not your first job, you can always go to the employer with analytics of your past performance. The numbers will speak volumes about your work. If you have a good track record, you are more likely to get the desired job. Apart from that, it will demonstrate your skills with data and analytics.
Walk-in interviews have become a thing of the past. These days, employers have become very selective about the candidates they call for an interview. A survey suggests that 47% of employers go through the candidate’s social media profile after receiving an application. After that, the candidate passes through several stages of the interview process. If you are looking for a job, make sure your social media profile is well-maintained. One poorly thought social media post or inappropriate photo can cost you a lucrative job, especially if you are looking for a job in the digital marketing industry.
